ANKARA (Anadolu) – Nancy Pelosi was re-elected Wednesday to lead the Democratic Party in the US House of Representatives.

“Congratulations to Speaker Pelosi, once again elected by House Democrats to be our fearless leader and nominee for Speaker of the House for the 117th Congress!” House Democrats wrote in a tweet.

Pelosi was re-elected via virtual election. A full floor vote to elect the House Speaker, for which she is the favorite contender, will be held after the new Congress is seated during the first week of January.

Pelosi, the only woman in history to serve as House Speaker, has held the post for three terms from January 2007 to 2011 and since 2019.

Although Democrats lost House seats in the 2020 election to Republicans, they still have a majority in the lower chamber, which gives Pelosi hope in finding support for her much-anticipated $2.2 trillion relief bill to stimulate the US economy against the adverse effects of the coronavirus.
